"so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified youto share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light." Colossians 1:10-12

Submission Guidelines

Welcome to See Media. We are the parent company of The Diva Life and oversee all publication operations. Our goal is to provide women and, beginning in 2012, men with books to equip, encourage and empower them mentally, physically and spiritually. To meet the needs of our customers, we are currently seeking contributors to our series of books. Books have multiple contributors. We are currently not accepting submissions for single author books.

Listed below are the submission guidelines for each series of books. Included in the guidelines are lists for the specific titles for which we currently seeking submissions and the deadline for submission. Now for the rules! :)

We want to make things as easy as possible for each and all of us. Following these guidelines helps expedite the process. When authors overlook or just flat out ignore the guidelines, we have problems. The easiest way to solve these problems? Delete any submissions that do not follow the guidelines. Harsh? Perhaps. However, experience has taught us that people who do not follow the guidelines in small ways usually do not follow them in the big ways either. We are just saving all of a lot of headaches. Therefore:

  1. No tabs in your document. Tabs become embedded and affect the entire layout of the book. This is a big one!
  2. Keep layout simple. Just use Times New Roman 12 pt. and double space.
  3. No indentation at the beginning of paragraphs.
  4. No extra spaces between paragraphs. If we want a blank line between paragraphs in a book, we will add them. Taking them out it a real pain.
  5. No hard returns at the end of lines. You are using a computer, not a typewriter.
  6. Save your submission as a .doc, not .rtf.
  7. Word counts, submission format and specific project needs are not merely suggestions. Please follow them!
  8. We prefer NIV translation of the Bible for Scripture verses but are open to other translations as long as you are trying to stretch things to make the verse fit your devotions. The devotion should fit the verse.
  9. Submissions must be original, never before published material.
  10. Submissions must  be the creative work of the person making the submission.

Ok. For now, that’s it. Unfortunately, we will probably need to add more as the need arises. We just want to stop you from doing something that we only have to undo!

Now, to answer your questions:

  1. Only one submission per author chosen for the devotionals. You may submit more but, if we decide to use one of your submissions, it will only be one per book.
  2. Each contributor receives 2 copies of the book.
  3. Contributors may purchase additional copies of their book for a 20% discount when they order up to 24 copies of their book at one time or 30% discount when they order a case (25 copies) of their book at one time.
  4. Throughout the year, contributors will be able to purchase other See Media publications at a discount.
  5. Books contain brief (25 words) biographies of each contributor.
  6. And, most important, there is NO financial payment for contributions.

Each devotion is formatted the same way: Brief Scripture verse, 500 word devotion, 50 word prayer and 200-300 word activity based on the devotions. Devotions should be first person stories that show the life application of your chosen Scripture verse. Devotions should be written in a conversational style. Simple Joy: These are full-sized books and booklets for women on a variety of topics. Each book focuses on special events, activities or seasons and offer women articles, recipes, crafts and more. The emphasis of these books is to help women  and their families reduce stress and increase joy enabling them to enjoy life more. Below are the guidelines for each type of submission:

Articles: These should be how-to advice pieces. For example: 8 Activities to Keep Kids Happy on Car Trips, Establishing Holiday Traditions in Your Family, Easy Summer Picnics, etc. Each piece should be 1000 words or less. Our market for these books is very busy moms. Articles need to be easy and fast to read. Yet they should be packed with info.

Recipes: 100 words or less. Recipes should be applicable to the book topic.

Crafts: 200 words or less. We especially like crafts that can be done with kids. Easy is great. Inexpensive is a must!

Entertaining Ideas: We feel women have a need to fellowship with other women. Therefore, we like to offer ideas for parties that are easy to create, inexpensive to host and fun to attend, especially for the hostess. These submissions should include decorating ideas, menus and other suggestions to make it easy for women to attempt.

Traditions: Share your memories and traditions with our readers. Time for all of us to get back to basics. This is your opportunity to share advice with young moms that may be struggling to encourage their families.
